It’s hard to believe I am now an alumnus of Oklahoma
Christian University. You know, I had always said, “By the time graduation
comes, I will be ready to leave…” and indeed, I was ready. BUT, is anyone really ready to leave the eagle nest?
#OCIsHome
After four incredible years followed by countless tearful
goodbyes, the answer to that question was no longer worth pondering: it was
time for this little eagle to fly.

I was blessed to have my entire family (+ some) there to
support me in this transition away from Edmond, OK to a more western adventure.
My parents took me to the Lectureships at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA as
an interim vacation before I start a new job in San Jose, CA!!! Let me explain.
During my time at OC and the various learning opportunities
from that experience, I was given clarity in that I feel called to pursue
counseling, specifically with youth. In order to do this both optimally and
legally, I will need to continue my education further into graduate school and
licensure. However, I wasn’t quite ready to delve into such a weighty
commitment immediately following undergrad.
So…I looked for ways to take a break from school in a
purposeful manner. Three criteria directed my decision: I wanted to use my
degree, I wanted to serve, and I wanted to embark on an adventure! For these
reasons, I have taken a job as a Resident Childcare Worker with Advent Group
Ministries.
A sneak peak of the job:
Living with 6 substance dependent adolescent boys ages 13-18
years
Implementing treatment plans
Maintaining regular duties in keeping the house
From my understanding so far, the best way to describe my
role is “House Parent” or “Mom.” In later entries, I will better
explain more details of this position as I understand it.
Up to this point in my life, I have experienced an overflow
of blessings rained into my cup in the form of family, friendships, education,
spiritual development, and FUN! However, the time has now come for me to be
poured out, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!
As of today, I don’t know anyone in San Jose. I write this
entry from a coffee shop as I await being able to move in to my house. I find
it funny that my more notable adventures begin in a coffee shop, specifically
the journey to Peru this time last year. Similar to that chapter, this one
opens from a café. I told God that I am willing to be poured out in His
service; now let us see where He leads.
